Kathy said around breakfast time on August 1, 2007

I was watching CNN on the treadmill yesterday, not because I am such a well rounded individual but because there was a commercial during Hollywood’s Hottest Hook Ups.  They spoke briefly about a possible ban on the use of garlic in restaurants.  I dug for the CNN report but stumbled on this article from the Caterer Search

The campaign began yesterday on Italian TV station Canale 5, one of the three networks owned by renowned garlic-hater Berlusconi, with an impassioned plea for Italian restaurants not to use “stinking garlic” in their dishes.

I am on the side of garlic.  I love it.  The more the merrier.  However I can understand that some people can’t have it or just don’t like it.  But to actually put a BAN on the use of it at a restaurant?  I think this is ridiculous.  I don’t like mushrooms.  So I don’t order food with them in it.  By no means would I push for a ban on them simply because I don’t enjoy them.  Now, mushrooms are quite different from garlic… garlic is potent and therefore has a much more adverse reaction in some people.  But banning seems a bit extreme.  What’s next, a ban on onions? Pepper? Anything that might cause a reaction in the slightest?  Where does one draw the line?

Without garlic in the sauce, can it really be called Italian???

I’m the same way with all kinds of food.  Why does my school have a peanut butter ban?  Can’t the kids with the peanut allergies go to a special room?

I like garlic too with the right dishes. I think its ridiculous the way cigs are getting banned, because its going to expand to other things I think. There’s already that trans fat ban in NYC, so I don’t know what else its going to expand to but it doesn’t look good. Anyway just reminded me of that.
