The Great Peppermint Bark Experiment - Attempt 1

So the Peppermint Bark Experiment went well.  Even despite my having to pause every 15 minutes to soothe the toddler with the sniffles.  But, it came out well… just not perfect.  I used good chocolate, Ghirardelli milk chocolate chips and bars of white baking chocolate along with red and green candy canes.  Baking chocolate is too soft for this I discovered.  The white part never really hardens completely when it’s out of the fridge.  So next time, I am going to make sure to use white chocolate chips.  I think I’ll also switch to semi-sweet dark for the bottom and use a little peppermint oil.  I’m going to do this experiment again next week.

Of course, the day I decide to do this I get a call from the dentist to come in for a cleaning today.  I hope the hygienist can chisel the candy canes off my teeth.

Dammit...nothing funny happened while you attempted to make this stuff? Shoot. Maybe you need to drink more before your start the process. I think that’s how my friend here in town does it. Can’t be too sure, though…

And it looks lovely, by the way. How much did you wind up spending on the homemade version, if you don’t mind me asking?

@Faith: Nope nothing funny… unless you think getting called into the dentist the next morning funny.

I have no idea how much I spent actually.  Probably more than it costs to buy it but, whats the fun in that? wink

I just posted over at Joelle’s that between the peppermint bark and fudge I’m feeling like I need to go eat sugary stuff I should not be eating!

That looks awesome, dude!  How’d it taste?  The only thing I’d change about it would be the larger candy cane chunks.  Last we did this (a couple years ago, if I recall), we ended up putting the candy canes in the food processor to get the bits small enough.

Dammit, now I want some chocolate.  *drools*

At first I thought it was a hideous, terribly gone wrong pizza. Then I read the post. That’s the power of images. I will never think of peppermint bark again without thinking wrong pizza.

Looks fabulous.  I’m trying my hand at homemade gifts this year, as well, but we’ll see about next year.  Its a lot more of a time and money investment than I thought it would be.
