imageOne day I read about some toy recalls, and then a few days earlier I was spending literally hours trying to dig up information about Bisephenol-A in sippy cups.  I wasted a whole afternoon researching this information all over the Internet instead of drawing with chalk with my kid.  I thought to myself “You are probably not the only parent spending time looking for this info...”.  So I got a wild hair and bought a domain and started keeping track of all the stuff I was finding.  I don’t have time to spend designing it right now but with the holidays coming I felt it was urgent enough to leave it as is and release it to the parents of the wild Internet.

Safe Mama (http://safemama.com).  I think this will be really useful for people so they don’t have to traipse all over the earth to find good information.  I think it’s a great resource (at least it has been for me, to have everything in one spot) for not only parents, but we all know people with kids.  What do you buy them for holidays? birthdays?  This could potentially be helpful for anyone who knows a kid.

I hope to expand it to include much more info about safety with plastics, baby gear and organic and eco-friendly topics too.  With the holidays approaching and the onslaught of toy recalls happening in the news I felt it was a good time to at least get it up and start spreading its glorious usefulness to the Internet.

So there you go.  Enjoy… spread the word.  smile

I did a ton of research about Bisephenol-A in sippy cups.  There are Bisephenol-A free cups you can get called “Born Free” - they have like 6 parts but they work fine.  I know you can get them online but I got mine at Whole Foods.  Also, I just ordered glass bottles in preparation for the new baby - born free makes BPA free baby bottles, too.  I’m so glad you’re compiling all of this info for us so I don’t have to do it!

@Erin:  Thanks!  I’ve got the Born-Free website linked in the side with all the linky resourcery.  Their website http://www.newbornfree.com/ is helpful and they are also for sale at Babies R Us and CVS now too.

The site (SafeMama.com) will hopefully become a spot where we can blend all this info into ONE SPOT for busy parents like us.  If you’re ever interested in contributing to the site let me know!

Oh god. Now I’m obsessively reading about sippy cups. Time to buy some of those cute Sigg bottles.

Check you out!!

Hey, if you put vodka in the sippy cup, does it kill all the bad stuff?

(I’m kidding obviously.  And this is why I have cats, not kids.)

This is great, Kathy.

My kids are out of the sippy cup stage but it was a close call with those Aqua Dots.

Kudos to you, Mama!

Is this stuff the reason why all the kids on the planet bug the shit out of me when they’re around me? Because if that’s the case, thank GOD they’ve tracked down the source and maybe kids will become more tollerable now!
