If anyone has been reading this blog in the past few years, you’ll know that I have been through a bunch of hurricanes. First, Hurricane Frances… then 2 weeks later Hurricane Jeanne. I went through a couple other minor ones I don’t remember the names of and we did get a little bit of Katrina. The next year we were hit badly by Hurricane Wilma. I was 7 months pregnant and we were without power or water for over two weeks. It wasn’t a fun experience.
We often joke that hurricanes follow us around because prior to us moving to Florida, there hadn’t been a serious hurricane in 25 years. Tropical Storm Fay is coming to town this week and looks like it will be a Category 1 (although that’s what they said about Wilma and she was a 3 or 4 depending on who you talk to). Fay could not be coming at a worse time. I am getting ready to leave for California on Thursday so on top of preparing for that I have to now prepare for a possible hurricane. I’m not a big complainer… sure yes I whine and kvetch when I need to but I am usually a laid back optimist. Ask anyone, I am almost annoyingly optimistic. I can’t help it. In this scenario however… I AM SO NOT PLEASED.

I don’t think I’ve left a comment before (I’m usually a lurker), so hi! The closest I’ve been to a hurricane was catching the winds and rain from Alex in 2004 while vacationing in Virginia Beach. Close enough, but not in the thick of things at all. Hopefully, Fay will realize she’s not welcome and head back out to sea!

@Michelle M: Hi! It’ s not the storm so much as the powerless aftermath that sucks. If I have to leave for CA while my family stays here with no power ... so help me.

I should have KNOWN this was YOUR fault again. Seriously - get out of my state. Just go. ;-p

Stay Away Fay! (I couldn’t help myself!) Seriously though, STAY AWAY!

We are moving to Florida in a few years (or hopefully sooner) and that is one thing I dread. Hubsy wants to be close to the beach and I refuse because I don’t want my stuff destroyed.
I hope that she backs down and becomes a tropical storm before she comes your way.
Remind me which part of Florida you live so we don’t follow in your bad luck with hurricanes…
